A number of small villages are dotted along the border with Northern Ireland including Bridgend, Burnfoot, Burt and Newtowncunningham. Bridgend is the crossing point at the border with Derry, and is a lovely stop on the Inishowen 100. There are several restaurants here, renowned in the area for their excellent food. Travelling along the route, you will also come across An Grianan of Aileach, a historical site which was the seat of Ireland's kings in the middle ages.
From here you can see unspoiled panoramic views of Inishowen from Killea to Inch Island, Derry and Tyrone. At the foot of An Grianan lies the An Grianan Hotel & Visitor centre, taking you through an interactive historical tour of life as it used to be and introducing you to some of the characters of the time.
Once a month, in peak season, the hotel hosts the Celtic Feast, medieval banquet, where you can dine with the warriors and gods of ancient Ireland, enjoy battle re-enactments, with music and entertainment to enthrall you all evening, including free wine and mead!
