An important fishing village on the east coast of Inishowen, Greencastle and it's harbour are regular stops for cruise ships visiting the north west of Ireland. A stone's throw from Magilligan in Northern Ireland, a regular ferry service operates during the summer months crossing the River Foyle and connecting Inishowen, and the Inishowen 100, with the Causeway Coast trail into Northern Ireland.

The picturesque village in in close proximity to many beautiful beaches including Stroove, with it's light-house just a few miles away. With the plentiful fresh fish arriving daily in the port, Kealy's Seafood Restaurant is a must-try location while the Drunken Duck and other restaurants in the area provide many alternatives to seafood.

Greencastle Golf Club, an 18-hole links course will provide all the challenges that even a seasoned golfer could ask for, including any meal from breakfast to dinner at it's spacious Fairways Restaurant.

Greencastle is also home to a 18th Century Martello Tower, which was built to defend the city of Derry against invasion by Napolean. The tower sits alongside the Norman-built Northburg Castle, which now lies in ruins. The village is also the home of renowned Irish playwright Brian Friel.
